Does anyone have links or access to Parish register for St John in Darlington? Looking for a baptism for John Wilcocks/Wilcox/Willock b. approx 1831 or thereabouts.

Darlington St. John's was not formed until 1845, so no good looking for 1831,

Hi Iddon,
I see from your previous posts that you're not at all sure where John was born, although the general opinion seems to be Bishop Auckland http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,417622.0.html
and that you have already asked for a look-up for Bishop Auckland for him on another thread, http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,417429.msg2833304.html#msg2833304 where evie gave you the link to the free website for Bishops' Transcripts - http://www.rootschat.com/links/074s/
did you look through the transcripts? If so you may have seen that you can also go through the Darlington transcripts, St.Cuthbert though, for the dates you want, not St.John, as Jolly Roger has already said. Some of these Darlington transcripts are listed under Parlington too.
Kind regards Barbara

Thanks for the info' Barbara, just started to looka at the link the Evie posted. He must be in there somewhere as either a birth (even though we have a potential birth place in Cheshire somewhere), marriage to Elizabeth Cusic or failing that potential baptisms of their children.
Not had any luck in tracing John from 1871 onwards in Preston where he and Elizabeth's son was born, Joseph. At some point Elizabeth dies and John has married or has a partner Ann Cross and there has been a suggestion that they could possibly have emigrated but would they have left Joseph, Matilda and Elizabeth (I think) remaining in Preston in lodgings to fend for themselves?? Or, have they simply moved to another UK location following the work?

I've trawled through St Cuthberts 1831 and 1835 for John's Baptism and nothing jumping out. Likewise have looked at baptism for Matilda in 1857, Elizibath 1862, and Caroline in 1864 and again nothing to see. I'm going to review St Andrew's with St Anne again.

Hi,
I've been looking at the census snips on your other post and wonder, bearing in mind that the enumerator had to decipher what he thought was written on a schedule, whether the placename could be Skerne and the full place was Haughton le Skerne, (Parish of St Andrew's) but he didn't recognise it??
It's a bit of a long shot but it might be worth checking the BT's.
Regards, Colin
