Hi Suffolker

Are you assuming that Arthur Eyles married Margaret Adams because that's what is on freebmd or do you have his marriage details?

If you are assuming, it is not a good assumption as there should be 2 men and 2 women generally per page on a return made to the General Register office. 1 woman is missing from the results either because the transcription for 1907 has not been finished or her entry has been transcribed with another page number or a character indicationg the film cannot be read by the transcriber and so will not match up with the other 3.

If you haven't already, may I suggest you purchase the marriage cert from the GRO at www.gro.gov.uk for £7, you don't have to enter a spouse name on the application. When you get the cert back you will know who he definitley married and the name of his father.

If he did marry Margaret please can you give us all the details from the marriage cert.

One man is missing, the 2 females are there.

Do you have the middle name Earnest from another BMD source or earlier census ?

You mentioned that he was born in Bow ….

So based on this BMD Index entry:-

Births Dec 1884

Eyles    Arthur Ernest         Hackney
Vol 1b   Page 543

I'd say this was him with his family in 1891 ..

RG12/163; Folio 11; Page 15 - Islington
430, Liverpool Road

Charles B Eyles 35 Head Plumber & Hot Water Engineer born Middx, St Lukes
Lila M M A Eyles 38 Wife  born Cripplegate
Charles E Eyles 10 son born Dalston
Ellen M Eyles 9 dau do
Arthur E Eyles 6 son do
Reuben B Eyles 4 son Tottenham

Spotted them in 1901, Charles now a Widower - let me know if you want the full detail?

Wonder  what  documentation suffolker found to infer his parents were john and Ann???

1911 Arthur Ernest (at least the one married to Margaret harriet from Woodbridge) is definately given as b Tottenham

They have 2 children Agnes margaret age 2 and Ellen maria 9mth - both b Ipswich

Is this the family???

Interesting Tati (not for the obvious reason tho  Wink  ) - in that the chap I found, father was Charles Benjamin - Builder in 1901   ...

I'm sure you have the right family on the censuses, PresKil - the 'John' on the marriage cert must be a mistake!

Christening 1st March 1885 All Saints Haggerston
Arthur Ernest, son of Charles Benjamin and Mary Ann Piper Eyles of 167 Queens Rd, father a Gas Fitter
