I am new at this game and have come across the name Dolly. Is this the real name as I can't seem to trace it further, or is it a version of another name?

She might have been Dorothy or Dorthea.

From "The Oxford Names Companion"
Dolly; a pet form of Dorothy, but now more commonly used as a pet form of Dolores, and as an independent given name. It is also in Highland Scottish a pet form of Donald.

or it maybe a pet name, for example:
My Grandfather called his wife "my little Dolly" because she was only 4'6" because of having had ricketts as a child.

It is a name that she became known by throughout her life by all in the family, nieces & nephews etc.

Her real name was Florence Nightingale - not the famous one though... Wink

Susyq60, I assumed that you meant Dolly as a surname. The Office of National Statistics Surname website states there were 75 "Dolly's" in England and Wales in 2002; so "Hello Dolly!"
