kirkburton look up 1800's please
« on: Saturday 07 November 09 17:55 UTC (UK) »

Hi
I'm looking for the marriage of a William ROEBUCK of Austonley, to Hannah ? of Wooldale.
They appear on the census of 1841 with children who start to appear in 1832.
There is no marriage at Almondbury All Hallows, and I'm wondering if they married at Kirkburton, which would seem the most likely place.
Thank you to anyone who can supply me with information as to the marriage date and Hannah's surname.
Thanks

I've checked the Kirkburton PRs as requested between 1825-1837 but there's no entry for a marriage of William RO(E)BUCK to a Hannah or Ann.

I've double checked Almondbury and see that there's a marriage for a William to Ann HIRST in 1830 which is possible, but William was from Honley according to the marriage so possibly not them - there's also a William and Ann on the 1851 census and William claims to be from Honley so that's more likely.

I've also checked St Peter's just in case but nothing sorry.

The best thing to do would be to order a birth certificate for one of the (many!)children born after 1837 and get the mum's maiden name from there Smiley

Hope this helps

For once it appears that Claire has erred.

hmmm - I can't find one for William and Hannah....but this is interesting -

William ROEBUCK (of Austenley) m Esther BRAY (of Holm) on 04/02/1831 at Almondbury.

Can't find a baptism for Esther yet though - I wonder if she was Esther Ann BRAY....

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth.
