Try looking for his medal record on the National Archives, with his army number this should be easy. Remember too, that many men (including my father) put their age up to volunteer for service long before they were 18. Dad was 16 and said he volunteered because he was bored working on a farm.

Hi Corsa

William Charles Pearson was killed 27/7/1916

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=809081

He went to France on 12/10/15 and was awarded the British War and  Victory Medals along with a 1915 star.

The history of the regiment is here http://www.1914-1918.net/berks.htm

And I see what you mean about his service record. I think it might have been lost in the 1940 fire.

Where was he born and living?

Hello Corsa,

Are you sure that you have the right William Pearson?

The service number 5334580 was not in use before 1920. It is in the block allotted to the Royal Berkshire Regiment and he may well have served prior to 1920, but would have had a smaller number.

There are medal index cards for three William Pearson's, Royal Berks, on the NA index, but only one (Pte 12485), without a middle name.

Pte 12485, going by his MIC, was probably in 6th (Service) Battalion, as the date of entry fits. He was discharged, sick or wounded at some date (Silver War Badge).

Pte 17626 was born Walthalmstow, enlisted Stratford, according to SDGW.
