REECE
« on: Saturday 07 November 09 22:03 UTC (UK) »

I have been trying to find a family named Reece, according to the census they lived in Chester, Cheshire. Their names are Ann Reece and Catherine.  Their father was William Reece.  Ann married Hugh Evans, then went on to marry Ebenazer Hughes.  Ann Reece's daughter Annie (Hughes) went on to live in the USA with Catherine. In the 1911 Census Catherine says she is from Malpas.  Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Regards
Esther

Hello Wozzle, just checked Ann's marriage cert to Hugh Evans 10/4/1876 in St Nicholas Church Liverpool and her father is listed as William Rees, joiner, although I thought it might have been spelt Reece.  Her next marriage 24/06/1882 to Ebenzar Hughes and at that date her father William is deceased. This marriage was held in Bootle Chapel. On the 1901 census Catherine states that she was born in Malpas and 1901 and 1891 both say the same, In all census I have checked Ann Rees (Reece) says she is from Chester, Cheshire.  WE have only ever found Ann as Evans and Hughes.  Catherine was born approx 1867 and Ann born about 1851.  Catherine went to Falls River, Mass in July 1911, I found her on the Ships Lists and she was 49 and says she is from Malpas, Cheshire.
Thank you

Hello Esther,

I can see a Catherine in later censuses born 1855-58, Malpas - is that her? The year of birth is 10 yrs or so different to yours  Huh

Do you ever have Ann and Catherine together?

I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right Catherine.

Hello, on the Ships Lists on Ancestry her age is 49 so take it she was born 1862, her occupation at the time was a Cook and she was going to work for Wm Ashworth, the ship was called Francnia sailing into Boston in July 1911.  Thanks

Am having terrible trouble finding them in earlier censuses  Huh

You say you have her in 1891 and 1901 born Malpas - is she the one in Rochdale area? Those are the entries around 1858  Undecided   1881- born 1855

In 1901 Catherine Rees is in Southport, 40 St luke's Road.  Ann (ie) Hughes is in Bootle, 9 Rhyl Street. Ann was a widow then.  I haven't been able to find them together.
Thanks

No I haven't!

1891 - says she is born 1858- with the Duckers in Wardle
1881- says she is born 1855 -in Rochdale as a Nurse

I had seen her in Southport but was thinking she was still in Rochdale area  Roll Eyes
