Convict Richard MULLINS
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 04:56 UTC (UK) »

Hi

Trying to find some details on a Richard MULLINS who, according to the Tassie Archives, arrived there per Lady Franklin from NI in March 1846 after having arrived NSW per Blackwell in 1835.

MULLINS has been spelt without the "S" and sometimes with an "E".

Cheers

Hi Bob

The 1837 convict muster shows a Michael Mullins aged 16 (assigned to Master: Mr Foster, district Windsor) and a Patrick Mullins aged 13 (assigned to Master: Major Antill of Molonglo district) both arriving 1835 on the Backwell (sic).

The only Richard Mullins mentioned on the musters arr on the Dromedary 1820.

On a list of convict ships I can't see a "Backwell" but the Blackwell  is there:
Blackwell, arr 29 09 1835  NSW,   left 12 06 1835  Cork, 152 embarked

http://members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps/convicts/shipNSW2.html

Not much help, sorry  Sad

Hi there,

I cannot find your Richard Mullins either, sorry... although I did spot a Richard Mullins, a convict in VDL... he was on the 1823 Muster with a Ticket of Leave... ex the Dromedary's 1820 voyage after a trial at Devon and under a sentence of 7 years transportation... I can also see the trial date was recorded as 16 March 1818... and the offence noted as Larceny..

Cheers,

JM

Hi Bob
Have checked the index's that I hold and only found the following:

There was a Richard Mullins who married a Sarah Hopkins in Launceston, but that was in 1832.

A birth of a Richard Mullins in 1849 to Unknown father and mother Ann.

Sorry...that's about it.

Regards

Hi Bob,

There was a thread on here some time ago re. the Lady Franklin from NI...might be useful to you:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,246564.0.html

Ship arrivals into Tas in 1846 - including the Lady Franklin - are recorded in these papers at the Archives in Tassie:

http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/default.aspx?detail=1&type=I&id=CON27/1/11

You should be able to get a list of convicts onboard from them.

Sorry everybody, after a closer look at my disorganised archives I find that the chap was in fact the MICHAEL MULLINS mentioned by Judith.

The RICHARD MULLINS mentioned by you all is in fact my Richard and the reason for my query was to sort out which Richard left Launceston.  Mind you I still have two Richards leaving, one in 1846 per Minerva to Portland and one in 1848 per Lydford to Adelaide.  On the Tassie Archives departure database there is the Richard leaving on the Lydford but it is stated he arrived per John so I'm leaning towards the Minerva Richard as being my Richard.  Hope that makes sense Grin

Thanks
