Webster Family
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 06:00 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Just wondering I am trying to find information on births, deaths & marriage's for a few Webster's around St Saviour, Southwark.

Edmund Webster born abt 1777 married Elizabeth Lalow 1794, but we don't have a death date ?? She apparently died in 1848.

Have a Edmund Webster (son of Elizabeth & Edmund Webster). We have his name down as Edmund Phoenix Webster, but do not know if he adopted the Phoenix after he was convicted and sent to VDL in 1832.

The Family historians, believe that Edmund was married before being sent to VDL, to a lady by the name of Lucy.  This is what I am trying to prove.

Any idea's as to how I can find the information?

Thanks

Hi Nedda,
I had a look on the Criminal Registers & there's an Edmund Webster convicted of larceny & sentenced to 7 years transportation at the Old Bailey, May session 1832...possibly this is your Edmund?  I presume you've seen the online court proceedings for the case on the Old Bailey Online data base?
He was 22 in 1832 so quite young to have been married.  It looks as if he might have adopted the name, 'Phoenix' after he was transported.
Are you near an LDS centre?  If you are then you could order the film for Southwark through them & go through it.
Southwark has many churches so it will be a long search.  Southwark Local Studies has this site
http://www.southwark.gov.uk/uploads/file_6308.pdf

Also Parish Registers has a searchable site (you have to pay) which includes some Southwark registers. Some also available on CD.
