I'm trying to locate a marriage, around 1810, for Thomas Archbell and Mary Emmerson. Thomas came from Healaugh (baptised 1776, died 1835 in Colton), and Mary possibly came from York. I can eliminate the following from the search:
Not at Healaugh - I've checked the parish register Not at Tadcaster - I've checked the parish register Not at Bolton Percy - I've checked the parish register Not shown on IGI - 1805-1815.
I know that Mary is the daughter of Charles Emmerson and that he was a cordwainer (at least he was in 1837 when Mary remarried at Bolton Percy after Thomas's death), and I say that she possibly came from York because there is a baptism on the IGI at St Margaret, York in 1788 for a Mary Emmerson, daughter of Charles, but I have not verified this. The baptism of Thomas and Mary's "first" child at Bolton Percy in 1810 gives the information that Mary is the daughter of Charles Emmerson. Subsequent baptisms at Bolton Percy show them as being the children of Thomas Archbell of Colton and Mary.
Any pointers, for a possible marriage venue, would be appreciated.

You've cracked it again JeannieR Fantastic! I knew it had to be somewhere, and York was the obvious place. I must admit I'd only just looked up the baptism of Mary, then found other children with the same father, and I'd seen the marriage for Charles Emmerson and Mary. I'm positive it is the right one, Archbold frequently appears for Archbell.
And, just as a matter of interest, did you ever find the burial of James Archbell (the hairdresser) in Bath? We've had correspondence on this gentleman from Tadcaster before.
AND if you have any other Archbells on your York CD, I'd love to know about them, if you would be so kind.
Once again, many, many thanks.

Hi Jeannie: got all those marriages, thanks. I know at one time you were looking for James Archbell's death in Bath, husband of Susan/Susannah Gould. I, too have never found him. But now I've made contact with you again, just wondered if you had succeeded, so asked the question.
My interest is in the Archbell name, from wherever - my grandmother was an Archbell - and in theory it's an easy name to research I have managed to tie in most of them to Tadcaster and Healaugh, just the odd one escaped.
I don't know if you have access to burials in York, but would be interested to know what you have got, if anything.
Best regards
Sue
