Hi

WWW
James Miller and Hannah Miller Sancton 1891+
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 14:46 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I am trying to trace the siblings of James and Hannah Miller who retired from the army between 1881 and 1891 to Sancton near Beverley.
I have them on the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census.
In 1871 James was stationed at Fulford Barracks with his wife and 5 children:
Quote
James Miller age 39
Ann Miller age 27
Mary Elizabeth Miller age 8
James William Miller age 6
Catherine Miller age 4
John Henry Miller age 2
Annie Miller age 1

Then in 1891 in Sancton with Houghton in the district of Pocklington:
Quote
James Miller age 48 as a shoemaker
Ann Miller age 38
John Henry Miller age 12
Annie Miller age 11
Joseph Miller age 9
Francis Miller age 7
Teresa Miller age 5
Margaret Miller age 2

Then in 1901 in Sancton and Houghton in the district of Pocklington:
Quote
James Miller age 59 as a shoe and boot maker
Hannah Miller age 48
Margaret Miller age 11
Thomas Miller age 7

If you have traced any of these then I would really appreciating hearing from you.  I hope to go further back to find James and Hannah's parents in Ireland.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Have you got their marriage certificate?   That will show the names of both fathers.  A child's birth certificate to get Hannah's maiden name?   Miller is a very common name.

I have some birth certs from a variety of online sources which identify Hannah Miller as Honoria "Hannah" Crowe.  These include IFHF, Familysearch and FreeBMD and they corroborate each other, naming Hannah for a few of their 10 children.

Two of their children were born in Bradford, one in Belfast, one in the Curragh and the rest in Sancton in Yorkshire.  I have a birth cert for one of the Bradford ones on order, I can identify one for Belfast from IFHF and I have the birth and baptism records for John Henry Miller from IFHF.

I am waiting on my first marriage cert from Roscommon records office for my other great great grandparents and I'll wait to see what I get back before I order one for the Millers.
Thanks
Paul
