Michael I've just found an article for Dec 18 1844 but it was in The Morning Chronicle not The Courant  Huh, nonetheless I've forward it on the Andrea.

Mm, yes a made a mistake- paper was Morning Chronicle (of London).

Toasted. (Trivia- when in Belfast and environs, one has to call the big breakfast " Full Ulster Fry" )

You are outstanding.

This is my John, his mate William Plummer mentioned in the newspaper is also mentioned in John's record. Which is just the big cherry on the cake for me ,as this confirms it on both sides of the world.
It also mentions his wife as.... wait for it  "Ann Marley" also mentioned are a Mr Richard Heckles (the victim) at Thornley and a Public House at Quarrington Hill kept by Whitfield Watson. I shall post bits and pieces as soon as I decipher the article, they are incredibly detailed (confusing at times) and fascinating to read.
And now for my little addmission, poor John Marley has been doing laps between the filing cabinet and the computer and back to the cabinet after lots of mumbling and frustration for 20 years. In less than 48 hours John's gone from a stick figure to meat and bones, with the fab efforts and help of the people here.

I'm very pleased I was able to help, it makes a nice change after having so much help myself over the years. I'm also very thrilled for you that John is no longer the stick figure he was, progress after 20 years .... wow.

As you say the articles are incredibly detailed and in parts confusing but thoroughly fascinating, good luck with deciphering them, you certainly have your work cut out for you there.

I'll very much look forward to reading the bits and pieces as you post them.

It's called being nosy, or just curious, and enjoying the detective work!   Smiley

When you've done a lot on your own research and come to a bit of a stop, it's nice to go on and do some for someone else.  Anyway, most of us will have had help from someone else at some point, so it's good to try to give something back
