Hi Not sure what is available but I wondered whether there was an obituary notice for Ebenezer George Harris Marshall aka George Ebenezer Harris Marshall who died in New Westminster 31st July 1948, he was born c1874. Also for a Gertrude Marshall who died Essendene 31st Ocober 1945, she was born c1883.
Many thanks Rosie

Hi Lynwen, Thank you very much for your reply. I have the death for Ebenezer/George (which I have filed in a safe place and can't lay my hands on at the moment) but the person reporting it was a George Edward Marshall and that is all I know about this family. My mother recalls at least one female child visiting England around the 1930's but could not recall her name. They emigrated c1910 but I can't even find when/where they sailed, I was just hoping that perhaps somewhere there was some more information on them. I would be grateful for any guidance. Many thanks
Rosie

Hi Lynwen
Thank you for your offer. I will do as you suggest and email New Westminster. I must look at FMP passenger list, I don't know how I missed that one. I will also trawl through Canada Archives, I've just got some new glasses so they should help. Thank you
Rosie

I believe this might be the right couple although your age for him doesn't fit... Wife is Gertrude ( surname is Feaver, Lynwyn, so if that matches, you have the right couple) http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=9047 Says immigrated in 1910

Hi JJ
Thank you so much for the census, his wife certainly is Gertrude Feaver, You have made my day. They married 12th March 1910 in England so obviously didn't hang around long before going out to Canada.
I wasn't convinced that the burial record in 1945 Essenden was his wife and was hoping obit would give more info.
I will have to look again at the shipping records as I didn't spot them first time round. Rosie

They are in Calgary Alberta, the next Province over in 1911...If someone can look they might also be found in 1916, and see if there are any children in the household also...Essondale is not all that far from New Westminster....

On the 1916 Census, I see George and Gertrude Marshall in Sarsee (which I believe was part of Calgary). His occupation was listed as Military.
George, age 40, b England, immigrated 1910 Gertrude, age 32, b England, immigrated 1910 Irean, age 5, b Calgary George, age 2, b Calgary Leonard, age 1, b Calgary
Hope this helps.

Great Susan ! rosie99 should be extatic............Irean... Hmmm.Is that perhaps Irene? Unfortunately the births will not be something we can ever look at, although within the 100 years...as Alberta wants an arm & leg for their information...
Military Odd, because I looked for him in the attestations ( CEF signups ) I'll peek again
There is a death in Vancouver, for a Leonard of correct age, but the chances that the children moved with them aren't big if they didn't move there until retirement...( I find lots of Albertans in B.C. after retirement...well, most Provinces have a large contingent who migrate there...so beautiful...and warm...SIGHJ)

I had a double check of the 1916 Census and have noted that the name is entered as Marshal (one "l"). The transcription and the original image show "Irean" however I'm sure it is meant to be Irene.

Hello Lynwen & Rosie
As he was a retired federal civil servant, I suspect V.I.C. denotes a federal government department/body. I will see what I can find in the library next week.
