Durham Light Infantry 1916
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 15:52 UTC (UK) »

I wonder if anyone can help?
My ancester Albert William Richardson was killed in WW1. I have recently been reading his war service records and have found that he was attatched to the Durham Light Infantry, initially with the 8th battalion, serving on home soil and then with the 15th battalion, embarking Folkestone, disembarking Bouloigne 10th Aug 1916. I am trying to get a clearer idea of his service and movements from this point in time, up to his death on 16th Sept 1916 killed in the field. The only other mention of a position on his records is the posting to Etaples on 1st Sept 1916 .......... I would like to know his position at the Somme battleground if possible. His body was not found but he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Any information regarding the DLI at this time would be gratefully recieved.
Regards
Alyson
I would also be very interested to see any photographs available of the DLI around this time.

Dear David,
Thankyou so much for pointing me in the right direction!
I have paid to view the war diaries at Nat Archives as you suggested
and wow! ......... what powerful, informative and saddening reading it was,
to have discovered the whereabouts and activities in the final days of Albert's life.
So glad I read this today ......Remembrance Sunday ......he will never be forgot.
Thankyou
Alyson
