BLACOE Christening Kirkham??
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 15:53 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have access to St Michael Kirkham parish records who could look for the following please?

Thomas BLACOE born 1810 Great Plumpton. He married Margaret ? and they had their first child in Liverpool in 1835

William BLACOE born 1812 Great Plumpton (possible father Thomas). William married Ellen Penswick 14 November 1846 Kirkham.

John BLACOE born 1822 Great Plumpton. He married Rebecca Threlfall in 1842

There may be other siblings that I am not aware of.

Thank you

Hi

In 1851 these two Blakoe families are living next door to each other at Plumpton Lane, Great Plumpton
Thomas Blakoe head 67 formerly grocer bn Westby
Mary wife 67 bn Westby
Thomas son 21 ag lab bn Westby

next door
William Blakoe 40 bn Westby Ag lab
Helen 36 bn Croston
Thomas Penswick 9 bn Singleton
Mary Blakoe 6 bn Kirkham
Elizabeth Blakoe 4 bn Westby
Ann Blakoe 2 bn Westby
William Blakoe 1 bn Westby

You say you are looking for baptisms, I assume they are siblings  Huh
These two families tie in with the William marriage to Helen father Thomas so I assume its your family, but Thomas age 67 has a son living there also Thomas age 21 which would make him bn c1830 which doesn't tie in with the Thomas bn 1810 that you have - is this right?

Hello Rosie,

What a lovely dog on your picture !

I suspect that Thomas, William & John are siblings and would like to confirm this with their Christening records.

The William Blakoe you found on the 1851 census is correct. Thomas was living in Summer Gardens, Liverpool in 1851. There is a possibility that Thomas and Mary are the parents if Thomas aged 21 is a grandson perhaps?

Thanks for your help

If that was the right family then in 1841
Thomas Blacow 55 Farmer
Mary Blacow 55
Thomas Blacow 13
Ellen Blacow 11
all born in County
living Westby with Plumpton

Hello Rosie,

What a lovely dog on your picture !

Thank you, one of his well behaved days he's teething at the moment fortunately not chewing the furniture.

Do you think they could have been baptised at Westby? I am not too familiar with churches in that part of Lancashire.  OH has Blacows but they are around Lancaster.

Hello Rosie,

Thanks for the look up in the 1841 census.

I'm not very familiar with the Great Plumpton/Kirkham/Westby area so yes they could have been Christened in Westby or Kirkham. I would really like to be able to confirm these three as brothers.

Hi Claire

Ther are several baptisms on the igi stating the place of baptism as Saint Anne-Rc, Westby, Lancashire (Batch P011451)  including one for a Thomas christened 30 OCT 1784  parents John and Ellen. which would tie in with the Thomas the elder on the 1841 census.  The IGI doesn't appear to have records for this church for the period you are looking for but perhaps this is the church at which they were christened.

Hello Rosie,

Thanks for the information I'll take a look on the IGI although I don't think they were Catholic.
