Florence (Floss) Green. Montreal
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 16:25 UTC (UK) »

Hi everyone
Earlier in the year I received a tremendous amount of help from this site about a relative called Pem.You provided me with details of her emigration to Montreal Canada, together with her husband William J Herring all from a small amount of info which I had found in an undated letter.
Can you help me again:- Another undated letter with the address as before i.e. 5434 Drake St. Cote St. Paul, Montreal but this time signed by 'Floss' which maybe a pet name for Florence. This maybe my Great Aunt  Florence Minnie Green b1888, Saltley Birmingham last known in, Census 1911, to be living at No.4 Winchester Place, Saltley.
At that time she was living with her sister Emma (Pem) before she emigrated.
Hope you can help.

On the navigation bar for this record go to page 21 and Florence Minnie Green is at the very bottom of the page.
Arriving on the Metagama Nov 22 1920 from Liverpool to Quebec.  Single, 32, b. England, going to Montreal.  Had been in Canada 1919/1920 (one year).  This is the only record that I could find under Florence Minnie - there are quite a few Florence Greens born around the same time to check in ancestry passenger lists.

A very quick check of the Drouin records didn't bring up any entries of marriage of death for her but I didn't do a thorough search.

There is a record of an Emma Herring (29) with children William (9), Leonard (6), Frederick (2) returning from Southampton to Halifax on the Adriatic.  They arrived 10 Sept 1919.  On the same ship is a Florence Green intending to reside in Canada but she is shown as married.

Perhaps you could link your first post to this one in case we can link visits back to England for the sisters.

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/index-e.html  You can search from here and find the above named people on the Adriatic passenger list.

Hi cosmac
Pleased to make your acquaintance.
I believe you have found Florence for me!
She did have a younger sister called Emma who married a William J Herring.
Emma together with William and their young son William Jnr. B1910 emigrated to Canada in 1911. They returned to England at the outbreak of WW1 because William senior was in the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
After the end of WW1 they returned to Canada, this is where I know you have found Florence because Emma and family sailed back to Canada on the Adriatic in 1919. Leaving from Southampton to Halifax.
I am puzzled by the reference to a marriage unless this is a reference to going to get married.
The Herring family lived in Drake Street Montreal for a long time and I suppose she must have lived with them.
Thanks again for your efforts.
Regards
