Edwards family - Staffordshire
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 18:49 UTC (UK) »

Hi guys,
Can anyone help me find the birth of a Benjamin Edwards born in Bucknall, Staffordshire, in 1792, I know he married an Ellen Wardle in 1817, but so far have been unable to find his birth thereby giving me his parents names. If anyone lives in the area where he comes from and can help i would be eternally grateful. Thanks.

There were no birth registrations in those days, and nearly all babes were born at home.So you would have to look for the christening records which will give the same info as birth cert would.Old church  christening books might be found in th Staffordshire archives. Depending on the religion.

Hi

Are you basing your info on the submitted IGI entry or on independant info?

This couple are not on either the 1841 or 1851 census so there is nothing to confirm his birthplace was Bucknall or even Staffs

Submitted entries are often based on guesswork and are not reliable

Thanks for the information, i have looked on Christenings records that are available online but as you may know nothing is shown, as for the census records not showing Benjamin or his wife Ellen i couldnt find them either, so could only surmise that they are deceased. as there is death of a benjamin edwards in 1841 possibly before the census was taken, and may be the reason he is not shown. Any further help would be appreciated. Thanks
