John Cairns
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 23:42 UTC (UK) »

Looking for any info on John Cairns born 1890 Ayrshire he married Ellen Galloway Carson.
Ellen then married George Cuthbertson in 1916.
Family rumour says John was killed in action in ww1 but I am unable to find a war record for him.
I have found a medal cert for a John Cairns but am unable to prove he is mine as there is no family names on the cert.
Hoping someone can help me.

Hi,
I found a John Cairns on a 1891 Census aged 1
Parents John Cairns Hd aged 36 Blast Furnace Keeper? from Ireland
Jane Cairns wife 31 also from Ireland
James Cairns aged 11 scholar  born Lugar Ayrshire
Suzzie H Cairns 9
Agnes aged 7
Isabella K 4
John  aged 1 born 05 April 1890 South Ayrshire.

He was the only child of that age who fits in with the information you gave.  Although there were two other children of that name but age 2 & 3 respectively. marcie

Hi,
Hate to say this but if he was born in 1890 Ellen could not have married him and THEN gone on to marry  someone else in 1916  John for instance would only have been 16 yrs old.

I think we have missed out a date somewhere along the line.  Either his birth date was much, much earlier or she did not marry George until much later.
On Sp there were 22 choices to go from but unfortunately I ran out of credits when trying to open the record.

Hi Marcie

He married Ellen in 1910 when he was 20 and she was 19 she then went on to marry George in 1916.
On her marriage cert to George she is a widower.
