Confused
« on: Monday 09 November 09 03:56 UTC (UK) »

Hello
I hoping someone can help me.
I went to the 1901 Cenus of England and Wales online but what I found was confusing to me.
1851 Census
After entering the surname of Parker and placing in the Keywords Southrop up they came ,they were all mine except one who was named Charles Parker aged 66 [1785] and as there are no other Parkers that moved there I am confused to who or if he is related.
The place is not given as Southrop but Cirencester,Fairford if this Charles Parker lives elsewhere why did he come up for Southrop?

If possible does anyone have access to this site?

Appreciate any help.

Colin,

C.P. only had to be in Southrop for one night to be in the census even if his usual place of abode was elsewhere.

Have a look at http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/ for details of census districts, it might help.

Regards

Chas

P.S.

You asked, "If possible does anyone have access to this site?" but did not say which site.

I cant see the entry that you refer to on 1851 - is it 1851 or 1901? you mention both, both born 1785 and being aged 66 makes me think we are talking 1851...

Have you the ref number ? (HO107, followed by piece no, folio no and page no)

Lizdb & Chas

The site I went to was probably an index as you have to pay to see the content but I can usually work out who the families belong to........http://1901censusonline.com

Charles Parker aged 66 is in the 1851 Census
Just putting in the name Parker and the place of Southrop my Parkers appear but a lot of them have moved out to Maisey Hampton
For some reason Charles Parker aged 66 also appear with my Parkers so I am trying to find out if he is in Southrop and also where he was born.
I can not find him at Southrop in the 1861 Census and the 1841 would probably be of no help as they do not give place of birth.

I do have access to a site that does have the Southrop Census for 1851 but Charles is not there...........www.rootsweb.com

Hoping I have explained myself a little better to you both.

Cheers

I still cant see Charles Parker, bn 1785, either living in or born in Southrop or near, on the 1851 census!
Thats why I asked for the ref number so I can find it in the index as presumably you have done, and then I will look at the image for you and see all I can about him!

Now who was the problem in 1901? (not the same guy - he would be 116!)

Hi lizdb,
Sorry there is no one I would like you to look at in the 1901 Census just the 1851 Census thank you.

If you go to my previous message and click on the web site, up will come the Home Page for the 1901 Census.
[1] go to the top of the page and click on SEARCH CENSUS
[2] When that appears go to the righthand side and click on SEARCH ALL CENSUS
[3] Fill in details as follows....Christian Name: Charles Surname: Parker, Year of birth: 1785+1  Place Southrop

There is only one that will come up and that will be for the 1851 Census........Charles Parker age 66
I am so sorry that you have to go to all this trouble, I just hope it is worth it but after you telling me there is no one in the Southrop Area I feel like I have wasted your time.

What ever yhe outcome I really do appreciate what you have done.

oK - yes I followed that and yes it does come up with Chalres Parker age 66 Cirencester.

But when I access 1851 on the site I have a subscription for,  there is no Charles Parker age 66 in that area.

So now I am confused too.

Hi lizdb
Life was not meant to be easy and they are so right.
You have gone to a lot of trouble and I thank you so much for your time.
I find that the 1841 Census are the worst, like I mentioned in my above messages that all Parkers in Southrop were mine and yet I have deaths on some children and adults who died in Southrop  between 1841 and 1851  but they never show up for me on the 1841 Census but I have been told that not everyone was included so there lie these Parkers without their families.
Oh well back to the drawing board.
I wish you good luck in your research and thank you again.
I would say that this Charles Parker does not belong to my line.

Hope you get it sorted

I must admit I never knew before reading this post that there was any access to censuses other than 1901 on the 1901census site!

If you are in England ( your profile doesnt say) you will find that many local libraires have access to the censuses via ancestry, free - so that might help you in future to access info.
