Hello List, This is my first posting and on looking randomly through the site I`m sure it will be the first of many. I have had considerable difficulty in finding ancestors in the 18th Century in the Woodbury area of Devon so I`m hoping that someone here can point me in the right direction to find Josiah Hayman and Susanna Stamp who married there about the 1750`s,
thank you all for taking the trouble of reading my message, johndora

Hi johndora, a warm welcome to rootschat. I had a quick look on the IGI records, www.familysearch.org and this is what I found::
Josias Haymen born about 1744 of Otterton,Devon. married to Sussana Stamp. 31/08/1769. Otterton,Devon.
pos christening of your Josiah Josiah Haymen christened 11/10/1741. Yarcombe,Devon. father Josiah Haymen mother Mary.
I child also listed.
James Haymen. christened 24/03/1770. died 25/03/1770. very sad.
Could not find any more children. I found a christening (the father may be a cousin of your Josiah).
Josias Haymen christened 1/10/1773. Otterton,Devon Father Edward Haymen. mother Joan.
Are these your ancestors, kind regards,Billy.

Hello Billy, At last. It has taken me a good 3 hours for me to find how to reply to your message. I could not find a "Reply" button anywhere after logging on, and I also tried as a guest, still no go. but I think I have solved the problem now. I printed your message off and I think that was the problem. After I had dug your message out of the trash and re-read it, there was the reply button,,,,,,,Halleleujah. Now to the message.
The Haymans are, or seem to be; in almost every Parish one looks at from right down South to the extreme North round Barnstaple. I have many Williams, Georges, Johns, etc and I think the only way to find the right one is by checking against the date of the event, and in this case checking the names of the children because there seem to be a number of them that could qualify EG My William Hayman is a Farway man, he married a Honour Harris there and died there but he wasn`t born there, so that is what I need to find first. He died in Farway in 1850 aged 78 so that gives a birth year perhaps for him of 1772 so at present that is the benchmark, a William born 1772+/-2 or 3. He and Honour had 7 children that I know of Honour, William, Sarah, Josias, Joel,Mary Ann, & James and my searches watch carefully for those names, plus the year. Of the many that are in the running including those you provided, are two I stumbled across. John & Grace Hayman with a son named William Chr` 18 Sep` 1771 at Whimple, and William Chris` to Josias and Susanna at Woodbury on 25/12/1772. Thank you Billy for your help and I hope we can chat again sometime Thanks for your help and I apologise in getting back to you so veeeeeeery late,
John McCarthy in Australia

That`s good news Billy. I am most relieved as it was bedlam here yesterday and it took about 5 hours to send my message to you as there were interruptions on & off most of the day ; and then the site said "there was an error " (something about being timed out) but it seems you did get it so that `s great I`ll wait till I hear from you, Bye, John McC`
