Well I made it to the library but I'm afraid most of my information is in the negative.
Positive first - John Pattison is definitely buried at the Blyth Links Cemetery - 24th January 1872, age 74 lived at Blyth Sheds. I also checked the MIs but there was no record of a headstone.
Joseph is not at Cowpen, as you knew, nor is he at St. Peter's Cambois. He isn't on the list of MIs for Blyth St. Cuthbert's either. There are only a few burials available for that church and none of them are late enough for Joseph. I suspect many of the burial records are within those of Earsdon.
Given that his wife was living in North Seaton there are still a few places north of the River Blyth where he could be. If I get to the archives this week I'll try one or two.
Almost forgot - I looked at the newspaper but there was no death notice for him.

Wow, you have been busy on my behalf and I do appreciate it . I am so pleased that you found John Pattison is at Blyth Links Cemetery, so do you definetly think that there isn't a grave stone? Joseph is a problem So kind of you to do all this, many many thanks.

Hi Irret,
I'm pretty certain that John had no headstone. The MIs were transcribed separately from the burials but as far as I am aware they are comprehensive and no Pattison showed up. A lot of people simply could not afford the cost of a stone.
There were no grave references on the burial transcript but I'm wondering whether there is one on the original - at least then you'd know whereabouts he was. I'll see what I can find out.

Broadly speaking the River Blyth formed a boundary between Morpeth and Tynemouth Registration Districts.
So a Blyth area death would have been registered with Tynemouth Reg Office, (via the Blyth sub-district office) and a North Seaton would have been registered with Morpeth Reg Office ( at Ashington sub-district office)
We have covered the options for burial places for the Blyth area.
There was/is a large cemetery at North Seaton, very close to where the colliery was !

Wow Christine, that really is great news! Now Woodhorn, is that in a church yard? This really is exciting. Thank you sooooo much.

It's a great site for pics of our beautiful county and Woodhorn is a lovely old church - a good resting place I think.
This bit's for Michael, if he's watching. I mentioned the cemetery at North Seaton when I was at the archives today - I was going to start my search with that one but I was met with blank looks - they'd never heard of it! No mention of it in their records at all. Have you any references to it on a map so I can show it to them next time?

A quick response to Christine's angle from Woodhorn staff on cem at North Seaton.... I think although at North Seaton, it is (also) called Seaton Hirst.
It is not in Woodhorn User Guide on Civil Cems, but their Anglican Parish User Guide lists Bapts, Marriages from 1903 and Burials from 1905, for Seaton Hirst. So anyway it would have been too late for the target burial.
I am a public transport user ( drinker not driver ! ) When bus comes out of Ashington along Milburn Road then turns right onto Newbiggin Road(on way to Blyth) the cemetery is on or near that corner ( an entrance road called Nursery Park) But appears to be chuchyard cemetery, not civil cemetery ?
Gary, are you putting this one on your " To Do" list ?

Apparently there are MIs for Woodhorn at Newcastle library. It might be worth looking at these before looking for a gravestone - especially in this weather!
