samuel young
« on: Monday 09 November 09 19:32 UTC (UK) »

hi all.
i am looking for info on my g/grandfather samuel young. my grandmother rose young was born in belfast in 1888,she had a brother neal also born in belfast in 1890. samuel married catherine sullivan in 1881 in colraine, they had a child(ellen) in 1882, and twins(samuel and henry)in 1885 in greenock. that is all the info i have on samuels family. i can't find anymore mention of the family after the birth of henry.

any help or advice would be welcome.

                                                                   cheers.doch.

If they were married in Coleraine (Co. Londonderry) when did they go to Co. Down? And by 'Co. Down' do you mean that part of Belfast in Co, Down? if so, I'll move this thread to Co. Antrim board where we keep all the Belfast posts together.

hi aghadowey.

i would say they went to belfast between 1885 when the twins were born in scotland, and 1888 when rose was born in belfast(county down part).

Have moved this to County Antrim board as it is Belfast. Do you have the actual marriage certificate or just the date from a Scottish birth certificate or other source?

The marriage certificate itself will list the exact place and date of marriage (Coleraine could refer to the town or the area around the town or the registration district), names and occupations of both fathers, names of 2 witnesses.
Index to civil registration is online (free) nd with the details there you will be able to order the certificate-

It's possible that the information on the birth certificate is not correct- I can't see any Catherine Sullivan getting married in Co. Londonderry around that date. Perhaps date or place is wrong, perhaps they didn't marry until much later or never married or perhaps someone else here will be able to find their marriage.
