drop down lists
« on: Thursday 10 March 05 18:44 GMT (UK) »

I have another question.  I have a couple clip art photos so far and when you move the mouse over them I would like to see a list of what is in that section.  Like one picture is a tree and when you go over it with the mouse I would like family tree and genealogy report to show up and when you click on those I would like it to go to those sites.  How do I go about doing this.

Thanks,
Joey

Hi Joey,

Here is a (relatively) easy way to do a simple HTML trick, Drop-down lists are more difficult

your images are shown with a line like:

<img src="./img/picture.gif" alt="Any text you like"></a>

the text in alt="..." shows up, when you hover the cursor over it.

to make the picture into a link, use the tags <a href=...> ... </a> around the image.
It should then look like this:

<a  href="here_is_where_i_want_to_go.htm" target="_blank">
         <img src="this_is_my_picture.jpg" alt="some text"> </a>

the target="_blank" bit means that the browser opens a new window (or new tab, in a tabbed browser)

You can use the same principle to go from a thumbnail to a blow-up,  just replace "here_is_where_i_want_to_go.htm" with "this_is_the_blow_up.jpg"

I don't  know if this is clear enough, it's quarter to 10 here and near my bedtime !

Give it a go and keep asking, if you get stuck !

Good luck,
Bob

I'm using frontpage, is there an easier way to do this instead of going into html for beginers.

Much depends on which version of frontpage you are using but if you "right click" on the image you will get a menu of options which should include image properties.

From there you can create links to other full size images or enter the ALT text that you want to show.

In Frontpage 2003 from the same menu you can create an auto thumbnail image or picture gallery or link etc etc
