Census Lydney - Ellis COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 10 March 05 22:58 GMT (UK) »

Hello
I have just discovered this is my family!  I have George Ellis and Jane (nee Parker) in the 1871 census at Lydney:
George Ellis 54
Jane 53
Martha Parker dau 22
George J son 20
Elizabeth J dau 16
George Frederick son 10

I would be ecstatic if anyone could add to this information...I've only just got them this afternoon so I'm still excited!  Looked for George John in Dudley for ages but here he is.  Sorry rambling on.  Any help appreciated.

Hi Brian,

glad you have had success and can understand you being excited about finding your family.

Unfortunately I can't check the 1861 census for you as Lydney is not included on the 1861 for Gloucestershire.

You will need to post again on the Monmouthshire board for a lookup -  Lydney is in Chepstow District.

Good Luck

Hi Brian!

I came across this on the transcripts of the 1851 Census for
Gloucestershire and wondered if it was the family you are
looking for.

Parish of Lydney

George ELLIS     36   Plasterer   born Newland
Jane                   33                     born Lydney
George               10m                  born Worcestershire, Dursley

I'm guessing that 'Dursley' is a typo and that it should say Dudley,
which is what makes me think it is the same family.
I'm not sure where Martha (who would have been 2 at the time)
is though.

Also, there is a George Ellis listed on the IGI - the details are:
Born 20th Nov 1816
Christenened 12th Dec 1824 Newland, Glos
It says that he is the son of William and Mary Ellis.

I hope this is of interest.

Best wishes.

Ju

Yes thanks Ju this is the family, I already had this info.  George seems to think that he was born in Dudley if later Census are anything to go by but I cant find his birth certificate.  Perhaps it was Dursley or maybe he was not registered in Dudley.  They are a troublesome lot - and they are my own!  I will continue ordering birth certificates until he turns up but in the meantime am trying to find out more about them.  I have the 1841 Census for the Lydney and NEwland from Archive CD books and have found the family who I believe to be his parents in Pool way Newland but haven't found him yet.  Thanks for your help.  By the way I think that Martha was next door with her grandmother Elizabeth Parker, she is listed as Martha Parker which is why I am uncertain over her father.
Cheers
