TOOLEY FAMILY
« on: Friday 11 March 05 12:08 UTC (UK) »

HI,
Does anyone have any information on the Tooley family please?

I have traced them back to 1718, they started off in Bletchingdon then Handborough. My gt, gt, gt, gt grandfather Henry Tooley came from a family of 6,  most of his siblings married and had families but there is very little information on them.

Thanks Lynn

My mother is a Tooley from Boston in Lincolnshire. As far as I know (I'll have to ask her) they have been in Boston for many generations, so I don't know if they would connect to your family.

In St Botolphs church (in Boston)  there are some memorials to Tooleys (dating back to the 1600's I think), so these may be of interest to you.

Hi Jonathan,

My grandfather was born in Linconshire, but it was Handborough.

Most of them came from Oxford, the early ones come from Bletchingdon.
It would be interesting to see the memorials.

Hi Lyn ...

Can I help you at all?  I have the Handborough PRs.

Had a quick look for TOOLEY records.  There are 10 baptisms (1818-1858), 5 burials (1790-1858) and 1 marriage (1838).

If these are of any interest, I would be happy to send details.

Hi Pennie,
Thankyou so much for that information, some of it i did have ie the baptisms but i didnt have the rest.

On the burials you have Henry 5th Nov 1848-- does it say where he was buried, as i was wondereing if he was buried in the same churchyard as william.

You mentioned the woodwards, that would be interesting as I do have some info on them but not that much. would love to see some of that info.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Lyn ...

Had another look at my Handborough PRs:

Henry (buried 1848) would have been buried at Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Church Han(d)borough.

Despite the multitude of WOODWARD entries, I can find no record of a birth of Lydia WOODWARD (have looked from 1800 to 1830 inc.)!

A request for a lookup on the Oxfordshire Baptism Index (at the OFHS website - small charge) may find her, although it's only about 80% complete.

If you need any further information, let me know.

Hi again ...

Just reread your last message and noted that Lydia was a gloveress - these were prolific in Woodstock (close to Handborough).  Might be somewhere to start looking for her ...
