Hi Omega,
Thanks for your response. Yes, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for - admission records, maybe records of her day-to-day care if they exist. When I started looking I just asked for the Archives to tell me if she died in their hospital (as it doesn't actually state the name of the hospital on her death certificate) but I dont think they've been bothered to check their records, so that's made me even more inquisitive. I've found records on the National Archives website this morning for people going back to 1866 and before so I find it hard to believe that they havent got records going back to 1931.

Pleased i may have helped you.
I was fortunate that it gave The Mental Hospitals name.
I have the Funeral Reciepts as well.So pleased they were`nt throw away.
I was always told my Grandad was a raving nut case but reading the papers made me cry,poor man.

Hi busybod,
The admission and discharge registers for 1828-1981 and case files/books for 1818-1972 for Stanley Royd are held under reference C85 by the West Yorkshire Archive Service in Wakefield.

No if i am honest, I have not checked the hospitals and I am not sure that they were included.
The reason I am interested in medical records is becaude my grgrgrandfathers birth mother supposedly gave birth to him and then died. he was brought up by the family I know as mine called Laidlaw.
It is a little more involved than that, which I wont go into. I am looking for clarification.

Hi
all institutions were included in censuses, however individuals may only be recorded with their initials. It varies from institution to institution and from census to census whether full names were always given or just initials.
