Hi Bob
I don't know if you have made any progress with this request but there is a lookup offer for the Thanet St John (Margate) parish registers on the Kent Lookup Exchange http://members.tripod.com/~jo42/knt.html

Hi Bob, Also shown on the 1851 census are the following children: William Ball son age 15 paper stainer born Hants Portsmouth Charles do son age 13 errand boy born Kent Margate Susannah do dau age 10 scholar born St Lukes, Middx Mary do dau age 8 scholar born St Lukes Jane do dau age 3 born St Lukes
So it looks more promising that this is the right family. As the first child is born Portsmouth, you could try a posting on the Hampshire board, if you have no luck in Kent. xx Carol.

I think James Ball married Frances Drew at St James Paddington 8 Apr 1827 as their first child was Frances Jemima Ball baptised 12th October 1828. Fathers Profession Cabinet Maker of Margate On Charles Baptism his father James was a Cabinet Maker of Coleman Street London.
