1851 - Longtown Anderson and Young
« on: Saturday 12 March 05 22:04 GMT (UK) »

I'm on the brink, I think I'm close? Can you help me?

My brickwalls in Longtown my 6xgreat grandparents Thomas and Elizabeth Anderson appear on the 1841 census as not being born in the county.

They are both over 80 and are dead by 1843.  Now I have their obituaries, Elizabeth's death cert (as she died after Thomas so I thought I'd get more info from the informant's name).

The informant is Robert Young.  I believe Robert is a china and glass merchant as per various obits for his children.  The IGI shows up 3 children for Robert and Jane Young one who is named Thomas Anderson Young.  I am confident Robert is related by marriage probably to a daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth.

But can't find the Youngs anywhere. So I'm back on the trail of Andersons!

From an 1851 index these are the ANDERSONS in the area.

Ann (31) James (9) Mary A. (7) Thomas (3) : Elizabeth (1) : James (84) : Mary (7) Thomas (1) : Robert (47) Susan (49) Elizabeth (25) John (15) Jeremiah (9) : Thomas (28) Sarah (27) Susannah (6) William (4) David (3) (2428 Folios 122-262)

Can a kind soul let me know where the Thomas's and Elizabeth are living and see if that divides these people into family groups?

My main stumbling block is not knowing where Thomas and Elizabeth where born or married.  Their daughter Mary who is my direct was also born "not in Cumberland" but she also died before 1851.

Thank you in advance and sorry for the ramble!
