Any help finding the profession of Isaac Henton born abt 1781 in Sibson. He was married to Ann (abt 1775 also in Sibson) and I believe they spent all their life in Sibson.
Thanks Sarah

Mike
Thank you for that - Richard is a possible for the father but I am 99% certain that W. Henton is his son - so that's really useful - as is the information on deaths.
Thank again Mike

Well Mike - this is brilliant - it looks like you have found a first wife for William Henton that I had no idea about - i'm sure it must be him howerver it seems odd that when he married again in Leicester in 1846 he declared himself a bachelor not a widower.
More thinking required I think
Thanks a lot though

Mike
this is very interesting - but at least it shows that great great grandfather wasn't a liar and hadn't been married before - don't suppose there is another william henton in leicester in 1941 aged somewhere between 16 and 21?
I think I am going to have to make a visit to Leicestershire soon!

(apologies for bouncing an old thread!)
Hi Sarah,
Isaac was an ag lab, as were every Henton I've found in Sibson.
I'm descended through William (Bn 1816, Died 1888) / William (Bn abt 1851) / Charles Henry (Bn 1889) - my grandfather.
Happy to exchange any info you need.

Hi Rob
How nice to hear from you
My William Henton was an engine smith and moved from Sibson before 1846 when he married In Leicester and died in 1880 in Nottingham.
According to his marriage cert his father was Isaac Henton, Labourer - I see from the IGI that two William Henton's were baptised on the same day in Sibson. I am assuming mine had the parents Isaac and Ann - does this mean that your William was the other one - child of William and Elizabeth?
They must have been related in some way - do you know anything about it?
I lok forward to your reply
Sarah

Sarah,
This is one of the handicaps of researching a 'common' surname! Now that you've sown the seed of doubt in my mind, I'll have to get to Leics Archives and see if the PR, and whatever else I can find, can shed any light about this conundrum, and whether there is any link between our lines (quite likely, considering how tiny the village is!).
I show 'my' William Henton as marrying 1837 in Market Bosworth to Sarah Higgs, then having 9 children between 1838 and 1854, all in Sibson: Josiah, Mary, Ann, Eliza, William, Sarah A, Alice, Charles and Harriet.
Of these, William is my direct ancestor, having moved from Sibson to Derbyshire where he's shown on the 1891 and 1901 censuses as a Gas Stoker. The 1901, though, shows his place of birth as 'Sysin' or 'Sysen', which has been interpreted by Ancestry.co.uk as Syston when it clearly is not. The 1891 gets a bit closer (Sibstone).

So Rob, you think your William is the son of Isaac and Ann too? I suppose that as your William was married in 1837 there is no marriage certificate for him. This is getting very intriguing
As Sibson is such a small village the two Williams are connected - I'm going to check out numbers of Hentons in the 1841 and 51 census and see if that reveals any clues and get back to you.

Hi again - I've found an Isaac Henton in Atherstone in 1851 but he's a retired tailor - figure that one out!
That one is confusing, given his age as 70 would put him in the right time frame.
I see him also on the 1841 residing with William Henton, Tailor, age 70, giving William a birth date somewhere around 1771. Possibly an older brother?
BMD shows Isaac's death as - Information removed due to copyright violation. See http://www.rootschat.com/forum/copyright.php for more details
