Hi, Please could someone look up George R Barrow born 1838 in Warbleton in the 1871 census. I am actually looking for his wife who appears as Ellen in 1881. However, this family don't seem to have left Warbleton at all and she is listed as being born 1851 in Linton, Kent. Here is the entry, any help would be much appreciated. Nicolette

Hi In 1871 he is listed as a widower I think (theres a line thru it, but its definitely not Mar or Unm. I also looked on the Marriage index and there is an entry for DECEMBER QUARTER in Hailsham District, which covers Warbleton, for GEORGE RICHARD BARROW and ELLEN WOOLLARD the reference is: Volume 2b Page 193
Hope this helps Anne

Hi, That's great thanks, I've got 1901 but 1891 would be great. Don't suppose anyone has got the 1861 census to check if Ann was his previous wife? I am actually after George jnr who was born in 1868 so George's 1st wife must have been his mother...I love this site!! Thanks so much Nico XX

Hi Yoz, Just noticed that George jnr doesn't appear in the 1871 census. Could you check for him in Warbleton- George R Barrow again but born 1868 or 1869. Cheers

Yeah, that's great thanks. That's where he was in 1881 too. Makes you wonder if maybe he didn't live with his dad? NicoX

He was a nephew in 1881 so presumable Mary Ann was George senior's sister?
Poor Ellen, she would have had 3 kids all under 4 years so maybe George was the naughty one and banished to his aunt's house!!

George Junior looks as though he inherited Tilement in 1901.
There is no sign of Richard or Mary Message in 1901.

Go on then, I am intrigued....
Nico
P.S. Apparently (and completely by the by) George married a Harriett Beal & she spent all his money. He ended up losing everything and going to live on a farm on church land!
