Pritchards and Soppets to New Zealand
« on: Sunday 20 March 05 01:54 GMT (UK) »

My ancestor, William Pritchard, immigrated from England to New Zealand between 1860 and 1865 when I find him in the Aukland, New Zealand Directory as an architect. He may have been travelling with his first wife, Eliza Ann, but I'm not sure when she died. He would have had his two children, William E. Pritchard, about 4 and Mary E. Pritchard, about 2.

He later married Alice Ann Soppet in Aukland in 1865. She and her father, James Gray Soppet, probably arrived from England a year before William Pritchard.

They immigrated again to Australia about 1877. I can take it from there because the Australian records seem easier to trace.

Thank you.

Hello Bruce,
Stumbled across your message while looking for my own family but think perhaps I may be able to help you.  My sister Joyce  married an Edward Soppet here in Christchurch New Zealand.  Not so long ago they attended a Soppet reunion and have some information regarding Soppets from the North Island.  I have sent this topic through to them and feel sure there is a connection. If you don't hear anything from them in the next day or two please contact me through Roots Chat.

Hi Bruce

Just to let you know that James Gray Soppet was my Great Grandfather on my fathers side. He was born on 21 Jan 1809 and died on 21 August 1866 at Auckland.  I have Alice born in 1840, however now your query has popped up, I'll make some more enquiries as there are others in the family in the other branch of Soppet's who have a considerable amount of family detail.  I will endeavour to get back to you soon.

Regards

Eddie.
