Cheshire WOOD, JOHNSON, MAYDEW
« on: Sunday 16 May 04 13:24 BST (UK) »

I am researching WOOD of Brereton, Sproston, Byley. - JOHNSON Byley and MAYDEW, Sutton.  Marriage Middlewich, Jan 1849 of Thos JOHNSON Byley to Jane WOOD Sproston.  Fathers Charles JOHNSON and John WOOD both Farmers.  Witnesses Charles JOHNSON and Harriot ?WOOD.  Isaac WOOD vicar.

Looking for marriage of Joseph WOOD to Elizabeth abt 1822 to 1826 in this area.  Could anyone help please?

Any information on Sproston Hall which was built in 1827, and lived in by WOOD family in 1841 1851, was it leased or owned how do I find out?  Noreen York uk

Hi Noreen
Have checked my marriage index for Cheshire and can find only 2 in the right time approx. but both marrying at Chester

1) with Elizabeth Porter at St. Peters 1817 (labourer)
2)   ~        ~        Wilkinson at St.Johns 1831 (carpenter )

the index I have is not yet complete.

There is very little history on the net regarding Sproston Hall
I would recommend a telephone call to Northwich Library, also
to find out which Land registry office to contact.

Below is a site that charges for searches,DONT PAY BUT VIEW THE SITE FOR NOTHING TO SEE WHAT IS OBTAINABLE

I will keep a lookout for you

Thank you for the help, I have found 2 marriages on line IGI The Latter Day Saints site for Elizabeth WILLIAMS to Joseph WOOD Gt Budworth 8 May 1823 and Elizabeth JONES at Bunbury 6 February 1826.

I will contact Northwich about Sproston Hall, it seems the WOOD family occupied it at the time of William WOOD's Will, which was written in 1837, and proved in 1849.  His grandson John WOOD and wife Ann Maydew were occupiers in 1871.  Then they lived at Wrinehill Hall, Madeley Staffs in 1881.  Thank you again.
