I am trying to find the records of marriages in the Parish of Wentnor. I have just looked at the Bishop's Transcripts but it had very early marriages 1600- 1700's but nothing in the 1800's and up. There was lots of baptisms and burials so the couples must have married somewhere. Does anybody have any idea what parish I should be looking in? One marriage I am interested in I found on the free BMD site and it says the district is Clun and when you check the areas it lists Wentnor but like I said I can not find any marriages. Thank you very much for any help.

Hi Ann,
What names are you looking for? I have recently been investigating Evans and Gardner/gardener/garner in that area and had a similar thing happen. A marriage that i thought would have been in Shropshire was actually in Clun. Then I was looking for people in census of Shropshire from Worthen only to find out that in some census Worthen is considered to be in Montgomeryshire, Wales. Sometimes you have to consider every possibility.
Cheers Wendy

Hi wendy: The surname I am looking for is Hotchkiss and the marriage I found on the free BMD site was for Sarah Hotchkiss who married a Richard Morris. Guess I will have to order the film for the parish of Clun and see what is on that film, it sure makes it hard to find people. I had never thought about Wales. I have just recently found out that my grgrgrandfather ended up in Wales with a second family. So maybe I will have to look there as well.
Thanks for the reply.

Hello. I too am researching the Hotchkisses of Wentnor. I am descended from William Hotchkiss, a farmer of Wentnor (1786-1859), who was the son of Richard Hotchkiss (1750-1831) and Mary Hotchkiss (1745-1820), who were married, according to the IGI, in Wentnor on 18 May 1775. There are a number of Hotchkiss gravestones in Wentnor churchyard, which I have made notes on and could send you. I'm planning a visit to Shropshire Archives early next month, so may come up with some further Hotchkiss material from Wentnor, including details from, I hope, marriage registers! (When did your Sarah and Richard marry?)
Best wishes, Emma
