Llangelynin and Ty Croes Mawr
« on: Wednesday 23 March 05 10:29 UTC (UK) »

Could anyone help please, Im looking for any further information on Elizabeth or Hugh Angel Lewis from Llangelynin.  All I know is that Hugh Angel Lewis was born on 11 December 1873 and he lived in Llangelynin, married to Elizabeth.

Thanks Smiley

Do you have Hugh from the 1881 Census?

The family is living in both Ty Croes and Ty Croes Bach:

RG11/5545 Folio 63 Page 7 Schedule 29
John Lewis Head Married 38 Farmer of 18 Acres Cardigan Llangwyryfon?
Eliz Lewis Wife Married 29 Celynnin Mer
Hugh A Lewis son 8 Scholar Celynnin Mer
David A Lewis son 4 Celynnin Mer
Mary A Lewis dau 3 Celynnin Mer
Evan Lewis son 9 months Celynnin Mer
Hugh A Lewis  Father in law 70  Annunitant Pennal Mer

I suspect that the Lewis is a mistake in the father in law's name and that he was just Hugh Angel, because there is a marriage in the North Wales BMD index for 1872:

LEWIS John .  ANGEL Elizabeth . Llangelynnin (Llwyngwril), Celynnin Sant . Gwynedd - Dolgellau C17/01/162

If you e-mail the registrar at Dolgellau quoting the details above:

dylannjones@gwynedd.gov.uk

he may be able to give you further details.

A post script to my last message, if you e-mail the registrar at Dolgellau you may also want to ask him for details from the birth certificates of Hugh Angel Lewis:

Births 1873
LEWIS Hugh Angel . Talyllyn . Gwynedd - Dolgellau
TLLN/11/496

And Elizabeth Angel:

Births 1851
ANGEL Elizabeth . Talyllyn . Gwynedd - Dolgellau TLLN/4/445

Thanks so much for the information, thats really great to know.

I actually was going through my grandmothers old documents and have the birth certificate for Hugh Angel Lewis (I think its her father or maybe grandfather?) in 1873 and now trying to find out any more about the family.

Again thanks for the help.

Hello Ryan,

Further information that might assist you in your search for John Lewis and Elizabeth Lewis (nee Angel). They were my great grandparents and came to live in Penrhiwceiber, Rhondda Cynon Taff in South Wales presumably to work in the newly opened coal mines in the locality. They appear in the 1901 census living at No 30 Penybryn Terrace and in the 1911 census at No 4 Harris View, Penrhiwceiber, Mountain Ash where they lived their until they passed away. If you wish I have copies of both the census forms which I will gladly forward if you require them. I would also be greatful for any information you gain regarding both parties to help my search.

Hello Ryan,

Further to my previous post Elizabeth Lewis was my great grandmother and her fathers name was a Hugh Angel and her mother was Gwen Angel which shows in the 1861 Census, living in what I assume to be a farm named Tyeroes, then in the 1901 census which I have a copy of shows she named her first son Hugh A Angel.
Once again I hope this information is of value to you.

Hello Ryan,

Sorry her first sons name should read Hugh Angel Lewis and the ages corresponds to the date you have given on the birth certificate, as it shows he was 27 in 1901. Also further information I have my grandmothers marriage certificate from 1909 showing Hugh Angel Lewis as one of the witnesses whom was my grandmothers brother, the wedding took place in the Registry Office at Pontypridd, South Wales.

Gwyn.

Glad to help Ryan,

If you require any other information that I have about them which I have collated please feel free to ask and I will email to you. If it is possible and not to much of a problem, could you please scan Hugh's Birth certificate and email me a copy so that I can add it the family tree which will help to confirm all lines of the family tree.

Many thanks Gwyn.

Hi Gwyn
No problem
I'll see if I can find it,  I got a feeling its at my mothers house.  Last time I saw it was about 3 years ago when I posted for help here.
