Does anyone have any information as to where the main groups of immgrants came from in the 1800's? I know the Irish immigrated to most parts of Lancashire, and the Italians migrated to Manchester, but was there any other significant waves of immgration to Lancashire?

Hi XP
I think you will find there were quite a lot of Scots who emigrated to Lancashire - in fact the Manchester & Lancs. F.H.S. have a special section dedicated to Scottish Ancestry.
See their site

Hi,
5 of my lot came down from Cumberland - 4 to Liverpool, 2 via the Isle of Man - 1 to Manchester.
As Mobo says I also have a few from Scotland - finding more as I find spouses!
My father came from up from Hertfordshire to marry my mum in Stretford - but that seems a one off!
Interested to see what others have found.
Cheers
Keith

ALL my ggrandparents arrived in Manchester in the second half of the 1800's.
2 from Antrim 1 from Mayo 1 from Wolverhampton (her parents having migrated there from Shropshire) 2 from rural Cheshire 1 from Bath 1 - if he really existed! - probably from Bristol
