Alice Baldwin circa 1920

I would be very interested to hear from anyone related to Edgar Preston UTTLEY, who was born about 1874 in Salterforth.
In 1901 he married my great-aunt, Alice Eva BOYLE. He was a dentist and they lived initially in Lincoln, where they had (at least) 2 children: Winifrede Gertrude, and Bertram Preston Uttley.
Bertram married Winifred E. Thomas in 1932 in Leeds.
Many thanks for any information.
All the best. Tim

Hi Tim
Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.
Have you made any progress, or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

Thanks for the prompt, Ticker.
I have made some progress on this, but nothing very encouraging, I'm afraid. I've established that Edgar Preston UTTLEY died in 1986 in Paington, Devon, and his second wife died there in 2000 (don't know what happened to the first marriage). On a recent visit to my dad in Devon, I tracked down their last address, knocked on doors, and a neighbour across the street, who remembered them well, told me that she was fairly sure they had no children.
In terms of living UTTLEYs, this leaves me only with possible descendents of Edgar's sister, Winifrede. I didn't mention her in the first post because I know nothing of her after her birth in Lincoln in 1903. Whether she survivied to adulthood and married, I don't know.
Not much to work on, I'm afraid.
Tim

Hi Tim
Thanks for the update.
Are your dates right? Was Edgar 112 when he died?

Hi Tim
The only Edgar Uttley I can find in 1871 (which I know is probably before your Edgar was born) is as below:
1871 RG10/4707 Rotherham Kimberworth Folio 54 Page 17 Bradgate
Joseph Uttley 31 born Bradgate Yorkshire Head Miner Ann Uttley 29 born Bradgate Yorkshire Wife Tom Uttley 5 born Bradgate Yorkshire Son Scholar Edgar Uttley 2 born Bradgate Yorkshire Son
In 1891 there is an Edgar P Uttley lodging at Gopsall(?) Street Leicester
1891 RG12/2526 East Leicester Folio 48 Page 4 Uttley Edgar P 20 born Barnoldswick Yorkshire Lodger

Thanks Ticker.
First, I was mixing up father and son. It was the son, Bertram, who died in 1986 (as you say, Edgar would have been 112 by then!).
And, yes, your 1891 lodger is my Edgar.
Here are my lot in 1881:
Church Street Barnoldswick, York, England RG11 4304 / 12 Page 18
James UTLEY; Head; M; Male; 35; Barnoldswick, York, England; Grocer Mary J. UTLEY; Wife; M; Female; 34; Salterforth, York, England; Grocer Edgar P. UTLEY; Son; U; Male; 10; Salterforth, York, England
Notice the addition of a middle T sometime between 1881 and 1891.
Cheers
Tim

Cheers Tim
Is the 1871 Edgar I found not your man? I don't suppose it is.
Do you have their details in the 1901 census?

No ... your 1871 UTTLEY is a different family.
I have Edgar in 1901. At the time of the census he was a lodger in Lincoln, and a dentist (as per the original post, he married my grandfather's sister later in 1901 and they lived in Lincoln for some years, having 2 children there).
At some point I believe they returned to W. Yorkshire, where they had both been born, because son Bertram married there in 1932. I haven't been able to find a marriage for Winifrede.
Cheers
Tim
