Records 1700's
« on: Sunday 27 March 05 12:21 UTC (UK) »

just as a general enquiry - ive now gotten back to the 1700's in my family tree research and have hit a brick wall on the internet.  up to now the internet has been a brilliant tool, and i suppose i should regard myself lucky to have gotten back so far without any great difficulty.
i was just wondering if there are any bmd records, from the 1700's, on any internet site that can be searched.  ive found a few on the lds site with the right surname, but not any that i can link directly into my family tree.
i am looking for the Bowler family in Marple Cheshire in the 1700's.
is it time to leave my PC and head off to the record offices and traipse around parish churches?
thanks

Hi
I am afraid that its the records office from now on, it is the only place that can confirm things from the actual registers, I am afraid the IDS (IGI) is not always reliable, and their records should always be confirmed.
Stockport library/Town hall would be the place to start, although the records office at Chester also have the parish records, depends which is closest to you.
Marple can be a difficult one to search, being partially in Derbyshire.
This link will give a view of the areas and churches you need to be searching

There are also a couple of copies of administration/wills for Bowlers in Marple 1805 and 1813 they may be usefull to you and can be found and purchased online

If you need help with early census info then I could probably help you, please be as specific as possible with details.

good luck
