Hi kcm2611

If you could give a little more information about your great grandfather, i.e. name and date and place of birth, and anything else you might know, I am sure someone will be able to help.

Hi Jill

I have very little information only his name was James Conrad Reed b9 April 1884 he was a chauffeur at harewood house, I have remember being told by my grandfather that as a young boy visiting Harewood, he was born 1909. Also I have been told in recent years that James Conrad Reed fathered an illegitimate child. I have no more infomation on the child.

I will as my mother if she has any more information

Thanks

Hi Keith,

There is a birth reference on FreeBMD (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/)
for a James Conrad Reed born in the June quarter of 1881 in Guildford, Vol. 2a page 88.  If you think this could be your great grandfather I suggest you send for the birth certificate which will also give you the names of his parents.

If you can find out who his parents were it should then be possible to track them down on the censuses.

Happy hunting.
