Hi Steve,
As you have the ref for the marriage in 1901, it might be a good idea to order the certificate. The certificate should give you Florence's father's name. You might also get clues from names of witnesses. Also is there a chance she was married before and perhaps widowed?
If you know Amer was definitely Florence's maiden name then you could try looking for her birth on 1837online(pay per view) for example. FreeBMD is very useful but as it is not complete yet, not perfect. You may find that she wasn't born where she thought - it has happened with me.

I was going to make the same comment as Debbie - that Amer might be a married name, even though the 1901 census calls her single. Free BMD has a reference for a likely birth of Thomas Henry - that certficate might also be interesting!
