Hello, I would very much appreciate an 1861 census look-up please! Namely, John Caddick (age cir 10 in 1861) and his brother, George Caddick (age cir 12 in 1861) in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. I suspect they should be living together in the Caddick family. Thank you so very much, Tom

Hi Tom
There are loads of CADDICKs about and I can't immediately see anything that matches your info. Do you have anything else ie father's name/occupation from marriage certificate etc. or details of any other family members?
Best wishes

I really appreciate your responding to my 1861 Caddick search request. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate a marriage record for my John Caddick and Mary Clark, otherwise I'd hoped to find John Caddick's parents. They should have been married in 1871, between the 1871 census where John Caddick is living with Mary Clark's family in West Bromwich and December, the birth of their first child, Mary. I have hunted everywhere without success for that certificate. The 1871 census is the earliest I've found any trace of my John Caddick which was a revelation to find anything on him at all:
1871 Wednesbury West Bromwich Thomas Clark Head 66 Breeze Dealer Rowster Staff Hannah Wife 62 Withington Green Mary Dua 21 West Bromwich Benjamin Pope GrdSon 13 West Bromwich John Clark GrdSon 14 mos West Bromwich John Caddick Visitor 20 West Bromwich
In the 1881 census in Birmingham, Brother George Caddock (sic) is living in my John Caddock (sic should be Caddick) family at age 32. My aspirations are to find John Caddick (10) and brother George Caddick (12) together in the 1861 Census in order to establish their family. Here's the 1881 household.
1881 Birmingham Census John CADDOCK Head 30 West Bromwich Painter Mary CADDOCK Wife 31 West Bromwich John CADDOCK Son 11 West Bromwich Mary CADDOCK Dau 9 Selly Oak Joseph CADDOCK Son 4 Wednesbury Martha CADDOCK Dau 9 Birmingham George CADDOCK Brother 32 West Bromwich, Stafford, England Painter
Here is my John Caddick's death certificate, unfortunately without mentioning his parents' names:
1900 Death Certificate St. George Birmingham, 39 Moorsom 16 April 1900 John Caddick, 50 Years X Mark of Mary Caddick, Widow of Deceased Present at Death
Thank you so much, Casalguidi! tom www.thomasclarktenor.com

Wow, you are just GREAT! This is very interesting, as John Caddick & Mary Clark Caddick's first children are:
Joseph Caddick (1876) Martha Caddick (1880) William Caddick (1885)
Joseph & Martha could very well be named for his parents, so it's a great clue! I wonder why they would all later claim to have been born in West Bromwich, though.
The Caddrick spelling is my first encounter with the name spelled that way and so is indeed fascinating and something I'll have to explore. The first occupation I ever have listed for John Caddick is on the first certificate I have found with John Caddick & Mary Clark together is the 1871 birth certificate of daughter, Mary, and that's as boot & shoe maker. I had been thinking that could be his father's occupation. Thanks so much for this, tom
