Dawgreen Dewsbury
« on: Saturday 02 April 05 10:01 UTC (UK) »

I have a Mathilda Charlton living in Dawgreen, aged 25 at the 1851 Census, wife of Parker Charlton. I can find no trace of either her marriage to Parker ( maybe named Charles in some records) nor her death for the years between 1851/1862 when Parker remarried.
Have checked BMDs and gro records with no success. Anyone any suggestions please?

Could be they never married - she could have gone off with some-one else by 1861....using her 'real' name. or a new married name....

Did she have any children with Parker ?

What were their ages in 1851 & places of birth ?

That they weren't married was the only conclusion I could reach, although 25 seemed a young age not to marry.
According to the Dewsbury piece 2324 folio 653 schedule 173 Enum district 1Q :-
Matilda 25 wife was born in Darlington, Parker who was called Charles P on his marriage in 1862 was 25 and born in Borran although this is Bolderen or Barnard Castle in a later census. He was a carpet weaver and living with them was a sister/l called Alice Burnsides born in Richmond. I have made the assumption that she was sister to Matilda.
There is no mention of any children at all.

Nessie,

You probably know this, but Boldron is a small village near Barnard Castle. There is no such place as Borran in the gazetteer, although there are a few possibilities depending on the spelling.

Thanks Jon, I had found it was Boldron although it hasn't been much help as I can't find any records to find the birth and give me the fathers name. Still I can keep on hoping that it may turn up one day.
