Hi Anyone, Please Help ME.
I am very very lost in this new website thing?

ok info. website is http://debpatshistory.rootschat.net
still stuck in holding.

I have downloaded FTP Commander 7.33 as i have read i need something to upload pages!

I use Heritage Family Tree which will create web pages for you? which i have done. I have then tried to upload just the index.htm page!

I get an Error.
Connecting to debpatshistory.rootschat.net , 02 Apr 2005 23:02:48
500 Host not found (Winsock error #11001)

I have the following options: (What i think should be there)

Name: (whatever i want)
FTP Server: (http://debpatshistory.rootschat.net)
FTP Port: 21
Passive Mode: Ticked
User ID: debpatshistory.rootschat.net
Password: ******** (4letters 4 numbers Trystan can you resend it to me just in case?)
Account: (Blank)
Email: (Blank)
Anonymus logon: (unchecked)
Save Password: Checked
Mask Passwork: Checked

Plus i have the added problem that i have a home network?!?
I am wondering if this will be why i am having problems?
If so any ideas how i can get around them?
I have been bangging my head against this for months now and i am about to scream! Sigh.
I would really appreciate anyones help! Thanks D x

Deb,

Your password does have four letters and four numbers.

I've just tried connecting, and it connects ok

I'm not familiar with FTP Commander I'm afraid, but hopefully somebody else is.

Don't give up. These computers are far too picky for us lot!

check that in FTP Commander that you have entered:

Host: debpatshistory.rootschat.net
User: debpatshistory.rootschat.net
Password: (that one that you have)

Ah, this might be the problem:
Your FTP server should not start with http:// it should just be debpatshistory.rootschat.net

Don't give up, hang on in there!!

Hi Deb,

I use FTP Commander 7.33 as well - works fine - when you get it to work!!

The only difference is in Account I have put the same as User ID - not sure if that matters.

As Trystan says no "http" in server.

It took me a few times to finally get thro - but now connects fine - fingers crossed!!

Lets us know if it now works.

My brother has a home network - will ask him about it tomorrow

Right then progress report!
I have moved operations to my server machine.
Made the http change ect.
now i have the nice commom 530 error, Now Kieth i see that you have had this before?! Grin.
I have moved the information to be uploaded to the same machine as well!

So you're using an username of "debpatshistory.rootschat.net" and it's not letting you in?

Excellent!

I can see that you have uploaded a lot of files starting with "aqwg". To see any files you will also need an "index.htm" or "index.html" to be the main starting page to your website.

I feel very proud of myself! Grin

Now all i have to do is to add another option to the menu, Sort out how to upload and view several pages of EXCEL onfo for the one name study i am working on and i will have cracked it! Any ideas?

I kept it simple. I have images but they are not essencial and i reckon that with the rest of the info left to go on there will not be much room left! Grin.
