So far I've been taking a very low-tech approach to building my rootschat webspace. That is to say had been saving things in Word as htm or html to get things on it. As I have never used it I forgot I had Publisher on my computer so thought I would change to this to make it look a bit nicer. I'm in the process of changing things on my site (http://gtd005.rootschat.net) from Word based files to Publisher based files. You can see both things on the website at the moment (if it is not totally obvious the pages in white with navigator bar at the side are in Publisher and the dark blue pages are in Word).
After uploading my Word based documents to the FTP manager then the message:
"Local and Family History Webspace donated by: www.RootsChat.com"
is displayed clearly at the bottom of the page. However after uploading the Publisher files this migrates to the top of the page and at the moment is obscured by the box that my heading is in. I think that changing the colour of the box will still make it rather obscured. I am of the opinion that having this message on the page is a condition of using the free webspace so I'm a bit worried that I'm violating the conditions. Even if it isn't a violation of it then I feel that rootschat should definitely be credited.
I have got a few pathetic excuses as to why I'm not using other webeditors: laptop not that powerful and already struggling; no knowledge of coding so need WYSIWYG program as no time to learn at present and cost.
I suppose this long-winded (!) intro is leading to a series of questions:
Has this occured due to the lazy html of Publisher (although should this be worse than Word???) Change the colour of that box so that even if it wasn't totally clear it is clearer? Should I forget about Publisher and go back to the unattractive Word format had been using? Forget about the website in the short term until in a better position to master a better web editing package?
Many thanks in advance
Gordon
PS Any commments about the website not related to this problem are more than welcome.

Thanks for the reply. Have looked at your Publisher thread before actually. To be honest I'm happy to use it at the moment if it wasn't for the acknowledgement for Rootschat part. Obviously having used Fusion you would have a different solution to my problem but I'm still a bit unclear as to how you can change the coding(which I can't even view when in Publisher so the answer may be a bit redundant) to account for an event that happens after your coding and you load it into the FTP manager.

from memory, the fast and dirty method is the one Bob suggested - entering a series of spaces or was it carriage return. Each one shifts the RC banner down a line. It depends on your page length but experiment. Andrew's works if you can find the correct insert point. I went with Bob's and it is working fine
You can view the coding in any html editor - see the threads on that. You do have to edit the html though not Publisher.

I am totally computer illiterate- no idea what carriage return is
Think I might have found a possible solution:moving the title down. At the moment think have moved it down too much (http://gtd005.rootschat.net/thomasdouglas.htm) but will work on each page tomorrow. Personally I don't care where it is as long as it is visible!

That looks fine to me where it is Gordon. I'd leave it there.

Thanks Gadget. Only experimented on that page so on the others that I have already done and had the problem will be a case of moving the box a bit further south but not as much as on that one (as I do think moved to far down!)
