I'm sure that this question will seem stupid to those of you who are used to websites but it's my first time so please forgive me.
I have managed to get my site up and running successfully but I've now done the first update. This is running fine on my own computer but is not updated on RootsChat. Am I right in thinking that I have to wait for Trystan to do something at his end?

Hi Kate
Right, you have updated the files on your own computer.
What you have to do now is to transfer those files to the Rootschat site. Just like you did when you first uploaded your site. Except that any new files will overwrite files of the same name. (just as if you were transferring files from one directory to another on your computer.
There are two ways, that I know of,
You can use the amanager page whose address was sent to you in your welcome email from rootschat,
or you can use an ftp program. There has been lots of discussion about the ins and outs of these methods in this forum.

I'm grateful for your reply but I've already done the ftp procedure. I've just seen the note from Sarah to say that Tystan is putting in a new server so I guess that is the problem - just a case I waiting I suppose.

Well if you've done the ftp thing, then it should work.
Don't forget that the files which are not specifically overwritten or deleted will still be there.
Make sure that the files you uploaded went into the right directory.
The ftp program doesn't care where it puts them, it just shoves them into the current directory on the site.
Log back on and look at the files on the site, all the files have a file date/time which is the date and time they were uploaded to the site.
So you can see if your upload worked or not.
Also check to see if any files are missing.

Hi katekeens
As George says you seem to have done the correct thing -just make sure when on your website that you press the refresh button a couple of times.
I have to do that when I upload new items to my site - I think the old bits are still stored in your cache - so needs refreshing.
If you clink on the top section (Date) of your FTP programme, it will put all the files in date order - or (Name) for all files in Alpha order - then then can see if the corrects ones are there.
Keep at it - you can do it - here's me telling you how - and a few months ago I was asking all the same questions you were - never having uploaded a thing till then!!
Cheers
Keith

Thanks everyone I've now sorted it. I had linked my home page to an old file instead of the new one.
