My g-g-grandfather was James Henderson born in Dumfries around 1849.  His parents were David Henderson & Mary Ann Ward - on the 1861 census it says they were both from Dumfries.  The family appear to have moved around - 2 children were born in North Shields in Northumberland (David and Isabella) then they moved up to Edinburgh and had a further 2 children in the early 1860s (Walter and Mary Ann).

David died in 1863 and in 1871 Mary is living in Dumfries with her younger children.  She re-married in 1872 to John Miller and by 1881 is widowed again and living in Yorkshire.  Isabella, Walter and James are also living in Yorkshire at this time but I have been unable to find their brother David or their sister Mary Ann.

Does any of this ring any bells with anyone?
