Hi Sue

could you perhaps get someone to do a look up for her in 1871, 1891 or 1901 so we can get another option on that place of birth - because I really have no idea where that is in Oxfordshire

If I have the correct family:

1871 (in Hoxne Suffolk) just says Oxfordshire

RG10/1739 folio 76 page 6
..................

1881 (looks like Brestow)
................

1891 (in Stoke Ferry Norfolk) says Bister Oxfordshire

RG12/1573 folio 15 page 23
................

1901 (in Beccles Suffolk) says Bestow Oxfordshire

RG13/1799 folio 77 page 10

I did, at first, think perhaps Bicester but given that there appears to be some consistency on the various census  Huh

Hi Sue

Do you have the marriage certificate for William DRANE to Elizabeth ADAMS?  If so, are there no clues as to her origins on there?

Hi

I checked the 1861 census index for the whole of Oxfordshire and came up with 2 Elizabeth Adams's of the right sort of age - however I don't think either of them is your one

They were both nursemaids in large houses
1st aged 14 born Highworth Wilts is in Shrivenham

and

2nd aged 15 born West Ilsley is in West Ilsley

I have the 1851 census for Oxfordshire - but it is not indexed so I am afraid without an idea of where to look it is a non starter - sorry

I think the marriage certificate idea to get the fathers name is going to have to be the way to go particularly with a fairly common surname like Adams
