1837online. Do they make mistakes? Help please, regarding a death
« on: Wednesday 06 April 05 11:17 BST (UK) »

Hello Everyone, your opinions please.

I think I have found the death of my Great Great Grandmother,

Elizabeth Marion Calvert  aged 80, registered at Leeds, in the December quarter of 1946....however, the volume number is 2c  page number 393.

I thought that all Leeds registrations were in volume 9b..all the earlier certificates I have ordered have been in there...was there a change or is it a transcribing error?

All the details are right, she would have died in Leeds, and she was born September 1866, so the age is approx.correct.

thank you

Hi Jeannie

The volume numbers changed from 1 Jul 1946, and 2c is correct for Leeds from then until the end of March 1974.

This information is from "A Handbook to the Civil Registration Districts of England and Wales", compiled by Brett Langston. You can also find information on registration districts (with volume numbers) at GENUKI http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/ , but this only covers changes up to 1930.

HI JEANNIE, IF YOU GO ON 1837ONLINE, YOU CAN PRINT OFF THE SHEETS OF DISTRICTS FROM 1837-1974, IT GIVES YOU ALL THE VOLUME NUMBERS OVER TIME INCLUDING THE ROMAN NUMERALS FOR 1837-1852

Hi

On a similar note, does anyone know about the Registration district for Church Fenton.  I have received certificates from the Harrogate office, when the district was named as Tadcaster, but I am looking for a grt grandad who was born in Church Fenton but can only see entries for Leeds.

His name is Thomas Atkinson born 1858.

According to the information at GENUKI, Church Fenton (listed there as Kirk Fenton) was in the Tadcaster Registration District, apart from a time in the 1860s when it was in the short-lived Bramham district. So North Yorkshire (based in Harrogate) should be the right office now...

Thanks Arthur

I will try Harrogate, although just in case he wasn't registered I have requested the parish records at my local LDS centre...

I'm quite optimistic that his birth will turn up eventually.

regards
