Thankyou sooo much! I have just found my great grandfather who I knew was a policeman in Somerset but could find nothing about him..has led me to his age, rank etc. WONDERFUL!

Once I found my great grandfather in the police records I was also able to order, from the same site, two newspaper articles relating to his retirement and his obituary...marvellous! Thankyou again. I hope other people have as much success with it as I did.

Hi
If your father was in the Police Force in c1950 (and he is since deceased, I assume) you should be able to get some information from the Police archives section - I would think that perhaps each county holds their own archives, if not, might be in central London.
