Mary Ann LEA
« on: Wednesday 06 April 05 14:53 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find out more regarding Mary Ann LEA, born 1841. I know that she later married a Mark PUGH, moving to Derbyshire, where she died in 1942 aged 101. If anyone can help with this reseach I would be very grateful.

Thankyou

Martin

Hi Martin - I am descended from Mary Ann LEA who married my gg grandfather Mark PUGH. There are 3 wonderful articles in the Derbyshire Times on her 99th 100th and 101st birthday. These describe a little of what she remembers about Wellington, 'her fathers native town'. Her marriage certificate details that her father was Thomas LEA and his occupation was porter but the article in 1940 she describes her father as a farmer. The 1941 article describes her brother as a 'soldier serving in the 15th Hussars'. Mary Ann went to live up north after Mark died in 1913 returning to Chesterfield aged 82. It is a huge family and I would be interested to know more about who she went to live with in the north after Mark died and Mark's brothers families in the Stockton area.
Regards
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

WOW!

Mark Pugh and Mary Ann LEA were my GG Grandparents, their daughter, Lily marrying my G Grandfather, James Thorpe. In turn, their daughter Eileen married my grandfather, Charles Mosley.

I have some information regarding both Mary Ann and Mark Pugh, including the original illuminated Testament with which he was presented on his retirement, and the picture which is referred to in the derbyshire times articles. I will be more than pleased to share all my information with you, and to learn what ever you yourself have on the family.

look forward to hearing more!
