Info on John Rooney, Kiltegan, Baltinglass

Hello everyone, I'm trying to find out more about my grandad's family. He is a John Rooney born in Kiltegan, Baltinglass 6 November 1871. 

His parents were Patrick Rooney & Sarah Murphy but I cannot find out any details of a marriage for them or any info on their parents, families, etc nor any definite siblings for John, although he may have had a brother James.

Grandad appears to have served in the Boer War 1899-1902 with the Royal Irish Fusiliers, before settling in Dublin & marrying a Catherine Crowe from Tipperary. It was in the Rotunda Hospital that my dad was born in 1910.

So if anyone has any ideas or advice on how I can further my research I would be extremely grateful.  Many thanks, TonyR.

Hi Tony,
Try the Griffith Valuation Tables circa 1853 -55 which list only the head of house, but you may find his father listed for Kiltegan and his house, land etc. Try a google search for this.
