Help me find Bathsheba
« on: Thursday 07 April 05 21:45 UTC (UK) »

I am about to tear my hair out! So please stop me going bald and help me find BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD.

An IGI has her marrying my greatx3 grandfather Thomas Sykes in Almondbury in 1823, but I could not find an IGI for her birth. I've now got the Almondbury Parish Record baptisms for 1799 - 1806 which is when I reckon she was born, but no Bathshebas anywhere.

She was 42 when she died in 1844 and she was '35' on the 1841 census - which means she could have been 35-39. Incidentally, she was called Bathias on the 1841, but I still couldn't find a Bathias! She obviously wasn't born/baptised in Almondbury and I can't find her anywhere in the IGIs so where WASshe baptised?

Does anyone have the baptism parish records for any neighbouring places? Does anyone have any ideas?

Has anyone figured out a way to search on LDS or familyhistory websites with just a first name, even when you don't know the place name?

By the way, if anyone needs a look up in the Almondbury Baptisms between 1788 and 1806, I'll be happy to oblige - as long as it's not Bathsheba Boothroyd!

Hi, you can search on www.familysearch.org just using a surname or christian name.  I just tried it but could only find Bathshebas marriage entry....................sorry Sad

Jill,

Try http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/.

This site lets you search the IGI in a number of clever ways.

BTW Bathsheba in Almondbury rings a bell for me. I'll try and find out why this evening.

Thanks Sue and Jon for your help.

Jon, did the bells that were ringing over Bathsheba and Almondbury come to anything?

Jill,

Sorry, nothing yet. But it's such an unusual name. I've had a look round places I've been hunting recently on LDS---Birstall and Hartshead in particular. Maybe I saw this marriage in passing, but the thing is, I don't know why I would have been searching Almondbury anyway, and Boothroyd is not one of my names, they're Holroyds and Oldroyds (two separate lots who married each other!).
